Keeping It Real:Information, Entertainment and Inspiration From Deep Inside The Mystery World
Saturday, June 23 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Main Library, DiMattia Building
CrimeCONN is Connecticut’s own one-day mystery lovers’ conference.
The conference enriches readers, aspiring writers and professional writers alike. Panel topics include: forensics and law enforcement experts sharing their insights, mystery writing for the big and little screen, and a behind-the-scenes look into the writer’s craft and modern publishing.
Panel discussions, interviews with celebrity authors, book signings and audience participation are included in this action-packed day.
Hear directly from the people who solve crimes, write about crime, bring amazing stories from book to screen, and share insights you can trust whether you’re a fan or a mystery writer yourself.
I plan to attend all of the events, Saturday, June 23 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Ferguson Library, Third Floor Auditorium, and will be one of the speakers on the “How Publishing Works in the Real World” panel presentation.
I’m thrilled to be part of it. I will be speaking about what I love to do: Pitch new ideas and projects to agents and publishers through query letters with the payoff of positive results. Without sending a query, I know there is no chance of receiving a yes or a no. I celebrate rejections as opportunities to learn something new. The first step is identifying the niche for your project and researching the agents, editors, and publishers specializing in that area. That master list of contacts can be the key to great success in the future.
The art of query letter writing is recognizing what it is you are looking for as a writer and what agents, editors, and publishers are looking for in you. The process is similar to extending your hand out to introduce yourself, your story, vision, writing, and thinking. Just think how much we can learn together on June 23! There are so many awesome speakers and panel discussions. Amazing. Looking forward to seeing you there.
